A rough start to Friday has forced a major change for families across Maryland.
Prince George’s County Public Schools announced that all schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 4, after early morning storms knocked out power to dozens of schools and offices across the district.
Downed trees and power lines are also slowing recovery efforts, school officials said.
As of 7:20 a.m., more than 30 schools and facilities were without power, including Central High, Fairmont Heights High, Kettering Middle, Walker Mill Middle and multiple elementary schools.

A middle and high school in Westchester will be closed on Friday, Jan. 24, due to a water main break, officials announced.
In a statement to the community, Greenburgh Superintendent Linda Iverson confirmed that water to Woodlands Middle High School has been shut off while contractors work to identify and resolve the issue.
